A judge in Dane County, Wisconsin, has officially approved a motion by state election officials for a final extension on reviewing the recall petitions against Gov. Scott Walker and other Republican officials, WisPolitics reports, extending the review to March 30 — and thus setting the stage for a general election on June 5.
The state Government Accountability Board, which oversees elections in the state, voted to seek the extension at a meeting this past Monday. The board made the decision for two key reasons: To finalize the work on the petitions, but also perhaps more importantly to avoid holding the general election immediately after the Memorial Day weekend in late May.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that all parties involved — the recall committees and the six targeted officials — filed an agreement with Judge Richard Niess on Tuesday, stating their assent with the proposed new timeline.
