The Earth is currently in the throes of a geomagnetic storm caused by two strong solar flares that erupted from the Sun on Tuesday night, but so far, the storm is not as strong as scientists had feared, and the effects on Earth communications, GPS satellites and power grids have been minimal, the Associated Press reported Thursday. But scientists at NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center warned that the particle stream that followed of the flares would continue through the day Thursday and into early Friday morning, and could intensify.
