A new poll from the American Research Group shows Tennessee as essentially a toss-up between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Although Santorum led by double digits in past polls, this poll has the former Senator up only 4 points, with 35% to Romney’s 31%. However, with a margin of error of +/- 4, it’s unclear who’s in the lead at this point. Newt Gingrich is coming in third with 20% and Ron Paul is in last place with 9%.
Even if Romney is closing in on Santorum, Santorum has an edge because he was further ahead when early voting began. Tennessee’s primary, on Super Tuesday, is an open primary, meaning independents, and even Democrats, could be a factor in a close race. There are 55 delegates up for grabs.
