GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The lights are still up at full brightness and there’s no music playing at Rick Santorum’s Michigan party HQ here in the opulent Amway Grand Hotel downtown. The small crowd is cheering every time the large TVs in the room (showing Fox News) show Santorum with a lead.
It’s really not much of a party, so far as these things go. But it’s early — the hotel lobby says the room is booked to midnight, suggesting the campaign is ready for a long count.
