Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney went back and forth over earmarks for several minutes during the CNN debate in Arizona.

Rick Santorum opened with a defense of his statements that some earmarks are good in which he argued that earmarks sometimes save valuable programs, saying  that Congress has a role of allocating resources when they think the administration has it wrong, but added that “as president, I would oppose earmarks.”

Santorum also went after Mitt Romney for asking Congress for money for the Salt Lake City Olympics. Mitt Romney responded to that accusation saying: “While I was fighting to safe the Olympics, you were fighting to save the bridge to nowhere.”
