Michigan Lincoln Day Dinner Good To Rick Santorum

A Michigan county Republican chairman said Rick Santorum enjoyed an enthusiastic audience at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner in Oakland County Thursday evening.

Fourteen-hundred people attended Thursday’s dinner, the largest turnout in about 30 years, Oakland County Republican Chair Jim Thienel told TPM. Santorum spoke about the importance of family, and how they build communities, then cities and so on. “It wasn’t a political speech,” Thienel said. “He never said vote for me. He said, ‘pick the best candidate.'”

Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, also spoke at the dinner, but Thienel said it was a “heavily Santorum” crowd. “A lot of people in Michigan like Santorum,” he said.
