McConnell Pledges To Fight Administration’s Contraception Decision

At CPAC, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell hit a crescendo in his speech when he pledged to fight the administration’s requirement that religious organizations cover contraception in their health care plans. This week, the Obama administration decided to require religious employers like Catholic hospitals, schools, and charities, to cover contraception as preventative care under the Affordable Care Act. In recent days, Republicans have in Congress — and on the campaign trail — have rallied against the decision, calling it an attack on religious freedom. Yesterday, Speaker John Boehner promised to fight the new rule with legislation. McConnell’s pledge to fight the decision echoed Boehner’s comments. We will fight this attack on religious freedom, McConnell said, until the courts get rid of it or we have a president who will reverse it.
