President Trump didn’t speak at his arraignment on Tuesday.

Instead, attorney Todd Blanche entered a plea on his behalf to the 37 counts facing the President.

Trump now has to abide by a pretty lax set of pretrial restrictions. He can travel internationally, but cannot speak about the case with witnesses in the matter.

That includes Walt Nauta, his diet coke valet. The two can still communicate, presiding magistrate Jonathan Goodman said, but if they want to discuss the case, it will have to be via their attorneys.

Apart from that honor system requirement, it’s a light touch for Trump. What’s before him (in this case at least) is months and months of wrangling over the classified materials at the matter’s core. Trump also needs to find an attorney who knows Espionage Act matters and has a security clearance — a task made way more difficult by the fact that Trump attorneys tend to become witnesses, get charged themselves or, in the case of Evan Corcoran, are allegedly misled by their client. Beyond that, it’s often purportedly unpaid work.

For now, its Blanche and Florida attorney Chris Kise repping Trump. Trump will be speaking in New Jersey tonight at a fundraiser.

  3. When is someone going to tell the rubes who have been sending Donnie money for years to help pay for his legal defense, that apparently Donnie is keeping their money tight instead of going ahead and signing a massive retainer to acquire a middling Florida law firm that doesn’t normally deal in Alligator Tort Liabilities?

Just because no immediate electronic communication hardly means anti-climatic.

Kinda glad that this intake-judge is trying to dial the spectacle back.
