The White House announced today that First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden will attend Game One of the 2009 World Series at Yankee Stadium in New York Wednesday night.

The game, which pits the 26-time World Series champion New York Yankees against the defending champs, the Philadelphia Phillies, will be dedicated to American veterans and their families. Before the game, the First Lady and Biden will join the New York Yankees at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx to visit with patients.

The president — a big fan of the Chicago White Sox, who didn’t make the playoffs this year — is not expected to attend the game. No word on whether the First Lady will wear a White Sox hat.
