Karl Rove, who has previously called Obama “wobbly” on Afghanistan, told Matt Lauer on The Today Show that he’ll be “among the first to stand up and applaud” the President for a troop increase. Watch the video below.

Though Obama has not officially announced the decision yet, a White House official told TPMDC that 30,000 more troops will be going to Afghanistan.

In an October editorial in The Wall Street Journal, Rove called Obama “wobbly” on Afghanistan. Today, he said “if the President does” increase the number of troops, it will be a “definitive action.”

“What do you mean, ‘if he does do that’?” Lauer asked, and Rove explained his hedging by saying nothing is official yet. “The President gets to make the speech,” he said. “We’re operating on news reports.”

TPM will have live coverage of the presidential address tonight, scheduled for 8 PM ET.
