On Fox News Sunday, General David Petraeus told Chris Wallace that President Obama acknowledged to him that the troop surge in Iraq was successful.
Wallace asked whether Obama had ever acknowledged the surge’s success during his meetings with Petraeus on Afghanistan. Petraeus responded, “he did.”
He continued: “Although I will also tell you that we have spent a lot of time taking the rear-view mirrors off the bus, and avoiding re-litigating, if you will, you know past battles and all of the rest of this, and focusing to the future, that’s what this has been about.”
Petraeus also said that the President had asked how “reconciliation” worked in Iraq, as well as “population security.”
