Coburn Introduces No-Viagra-For-Sex-Offenders Amendment (VIDEO)

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) introduced an amendment to the health care reform bill today that would prevent states from providing drugs like Viagra to “convicted sex offenders, child molesters, and rapists.”

Coburn says that the federal government requires states to provide impotence drugs to Medicaid patients, so that “we’ve got convicted sex offenders, rapists, and child molesters, and we’re taking federal tax dollars and buying them drugs so they can act again.”

As the Senate gets closer to voting on a health care reconciliation bill, the Republican strategy to derail the Democrats’ plans is getting creative–and dirty. Their strategy is clear: with Democrats determined to pass a clean bill, Republicans will force them to vote down politically juiced-up amendments, and likely turn them into political ads meant to characterize Dems as sympathetic to sex offenders and fraudsters.
