Gov. Charlie Crist (R-FL), who has gone from heavy favorite to serious underdog in the Republican primary for Senate, has a new radio ad opposing the “three-ring circus” of the Obama health care bill — and touting Crist’s own accomplishments on health care.
This ad shows the tight-rope that Republicans are walking, even in GOP primaries. Nobody wants to say that they are against helping people get access to health care. But no Republican wants to be seen supporting Obama, either — after all, Crist has taken enough heat as it is, for having backed the stimulus bill in 2009.
“But in Florida, one leader already enacted common sense conservative solutions, Charlie Crist,” the ad declares. “As Governor, Crist passed Cover Florida. Now Floridians can take charge of their own health care through market based strategies. Thousands already enrolled and climbing. Charlie Crist helped create the Florida discount drug card. Over 130,000 have already saved nearly 6 million on prescriptions. Most important: no tax dollars were used.”
