A top fundraiser is resigning from the Republican National Committee, Politico reports.

Former Ambassador Sam Fox, a co-chairman of the Republican Regents, has left his unpaid post, according to two anonymous sources. The Regents is responsible for the RNC’s top-level fund-raising.

From Politico:

But Fox was “deeply troubled by the pattern of self-inflicted wounds and missteps,” another major Republican fundraiser told me today, and had “lost confidence” in Steele.

The RNC has been battered with bad press after FEC reports showed lavish spending on private jets, hotels, meals and one nightclub tab that reached $2,000.

Steele said this morning the RNC is instituting cost-control measures and limiting the kinds of events hosted by its finance department. He also said he’ll continue working for the RNC.

The bad news does not seem to be stopping soon. One source told Politico they expect to see more high-level resignations. And, as Politics Daily reports, the RNC has hired a fund-raiser who was once fired for misusing PAC money.
