Geithner: If Banks Mess Up In The Future, ‘Dismember Them’
In an interview with ABC News, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner explained the goals of financial reform. “Our view is that we need to make sure that you’re limiting how big they can get and how risky that they can get,” said Geithner. “But if, in the future, if they mess up and they take themselves to the edge of the cliff again, then we want to make sure we can put them out of existence, dismember them, break them up safely without the American taxpayer having to bail them out again”

Obama On The VAT: ‘I Want To Get A Better Picture Of What Our Options Are’
In an interview with CNBC, President Obama did not rule out the idea of a value-added tax. “I know that there’s been a lot of talk around town lately about the value-added tax. That is something that has worked for some countries. It’s something that would be novel for the United States,” said Obama “And before, you know, I start saying ‘this makes sense or that makes sense,’ I want to get a better picture of what our options are.”
NYT: Diane Wood Shows Persuasive Punch
The New York Times profiles Judge Diane Wood, who is said to be a potential Supreme Court nominee, and finds a judge who has found success working as a liberal on an overall conservative court. “She had to make a judgment: How do you have a constructive and productive career on a court in which you may be in the ideological minority?” said Judge Richard Posner, one of her conservative colleagues. “I think she’s been very tactful in dealing with people — not giving up her views but trying to look for common ground.”

In an interview with a Canadian Christian radio show, Sarah Palin said that she “doesn’t know politically what is next for me.” She explained: “If I can help provide some encouragement, some inspiration, some hope for them to get through their battles and make good decisions and get through a challenge, because that’s what we’ve been able to do, then I am going to stay focused on that. Whether that’s on a local level in my own little town of Wasilla, or in the Oval Office, if it’s right, then we will pursue that.”
