The AFL-CIO is taking its campaign to unseat Sen. Blanche Lincon (D) to union job sites across Arkansas. In a pair new leaflet the union is now distributing to workers, the AFL-CIO slams Lincoln over her opposition to card check legislation and votes in favor free trade pacts like NAFTA.
The leaflets also praise the AFL-CIO’s choice in the Arkansas Democratic Senate primary, Lt. Gov. Bill Halter. Labor has been a key supporter of Halter since he got in the race in March, and the leafletting is just one part of AFL-CIO’s independent expenditures in the contest.
Halter has continued to trail Lincoln in public polling ahead of the May 18 primary. The TPM Poll Average for the primary race shows Lincoln in the lead by a margin of 45.8-31.0.
The AFL-CIO says it has 45,000 active members and retirees in Arkansas, and 16,000 workers in its non-union Working America affiliate program.
