Carly Fiorina, the Republican nominee for Senate in California, expressed “regret” yesterday that she gave “people the opportunity to talk about something petty and superficial” when she called Sen. Barbara Boxer’s hairstyle “soooo yesterday,” but demurred when asked if she had called her election opponent to apologize.
On Fox News Sunday, Fiorina said that she “was quoting a friend of mine” when she was caught by a live mic mocking Boxer’s hairstyle.
“I regret this whole situation,” she said. “I gave people the opportunity to talk about something petty and superficial, and this is a very serious election year about serious issues.”
Host Chris Wallace asked if she called Boxer to apologize. Fiorina replied:
What I think I owe the voters is a commitment to stay focused on facts on issues and on the things that really matter, and I will keep that commitment to the voters.
