Today, Colorado Republican Scott McInnis made his first public appearance since The Denver Post reported last week that he had apparently plagiarized a series of articles, revelations that have seriously wounded his gubernatorial campaign.
McInnis appeared at the Colorado Farm Bureau’s mid-summer meeting, along with his main August 10 primary opponent, Dan Maes. According to The Denver Post, the candidates spoke about illegal immigration, water storage and Piñon Canyon.
McInnis spoke to the press after the event, and restated his intention to stay in the race.
“Do I look like I’m going anywhere? These boots are made for walking, and I’m ready to fight,” he told The Post.
McInnis called the plagiarism incident “an obvious mistake. I stood up, took responsibility and moved on.” He continues to finger a researcher, Rolly Fischer, for the actual copying, though Fischer denies the charge.
