The new survey by Public Policy Polling (D) of the Florida Democratic Senate primary shows Rep. Kendrick Meek and businessman Jeff Greene in a close race, with both of them remaining widely unknown by the voting public heading into the August 24 primary.
Meek has 28% support and Greene 25%, followed by natural health businessman Glenn Burkett at 6%, and former Miami Mayor Maurice Ferré at 4% – with 37% of respondents undecided. The survey of likely Dem primary voters has a ±5.3% margin of error, and there is no prior PPP survey of this race for direct comparison.
Meek’s personal rating is only 33% favorable to 20% unfavorable, with 47% having no opinion of him. Greene’s rating is in the red at 22%-33%, with a similar 45% having no opinion. Polls of the general election have also consistently shown either Meek or Greene running in third place, behind former Republican and now independent Gov. Charlie Crist and Republican Marco Rubio.
