Republican Congressman Peter King is receiving complaints from many liberal groups regarding his plans to hold hearings in Congress on the “radicalization” of Muslim Americans and admits he even has been the victim of many hostile phone calls and death threats.  However, King told Megyn Kelly today that he is not at all intimidated by the harassment and has no intention of backing down.

King declared that the hearings are essential for the nation’s homeland security and that even members of President Obama’s cabinet spoke about the increased possibility of homegrown terrorism.  Despite comparisons to mounting a McCarthy-like witch hunt and displaying anti-Muslim bias, King called such opposition “absolutely insane” and reiterated he is only focused on a small segment of the Muslim population and not all Muslims.
Responding to one complaint from Democrats that this is just another attempt by Republicans to focus on any issue but jobs and the economy, King suggested such critics “learn how to walk and chew gum at the same time.”  Whether one agrees with the need for such hearings or not, King here demonstrates that he will not give up on something in which he believes strongly.
