Michele Bachmann and her former campaign manager Ed Rollins have turned out to be a match made in heaven — or at least, in whatever divorce courts might exist in the hereafter.
Rollins is now firing back at Bachmann’s statement that “I guess I should have done that Google search” on Rollins’s history of publicly badmouthing campaigns he had worked for, as he has now been doing to Team Bachmann.
Robert Costa at National Review asked Rollins for comment. Rollins shot back: “Well, if I would have Googled her, I would have found out she had 6 chiefs of staff in 5 years.”
Indeed, this past February Bachmann’s fifth ex-chief of staff Ron Carey (who is also a former Minnesota GOP chairman) openly trashed Bachmann in the press, as she was preparing to launch her White House bid.
“While she passes the conservative test, my opinion from my association with her is she’s not going to be an electable candidate for us,” Carey told the Associated Press. “And even if she were elected I don’t believe she would be ready for the position of the president of the United States.”
So it does seem interesting that Rollins was not aware of these very prominent issues.
After stepping down as Bachmann’s campaign manager, citing his age and health as issues, Rollins openly declared that the Bachmann campaign would not have enough money to campaign beyond Iowa, unless, “she somehow for some reason could win Iowa than she could get another look.”
Rollins has previously had similar fallings-out with the 1992 presidential campaign of Ross Perot, and the 2006 Senate campaign of Katherine Harris. After quitting each of those campaigns, Rollins criticized the candidates and/or their campaigns, and called into question the candidates’ viability and fitness for office.
