Presidential Debates Set, Commission Leaves Door Open For Possible Third Party Participation

President Obama is scheduled to debate against Mitt Romney the GOP nominee on three occasions in the next year, The Commission on Presidential Debates announced on Monday.

The first debate will be held on October 3rd at the University of Denver in Colorado, the second on October 16th at Hofstra University in New York, and the last will be held on October 22nd at Lynn University in Florida.

In an interesting twist, the commission has issued a ruling that appears to leave the door open, if only barely, for participation by a third party candidate.

The ruling states that in order to be eligible to participate, candidates must have at least 15 percent support in major polls and appear on enough state ballots to have a mathematical chance of winning the presidency.
