Pro-Mitt Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future began airing its first ad in Iowa on Thursday, the beginning of a sustained ad campaign to bolster Romney going into the Iowa caucuses. The ad buy is a whopping $3.1 million to flood Iowa TV and radio, according to Politico.
Unlike the base-courting attacks his campaign and several Romney’s supporters are unleashing on chief competitor Newt Gingrich Thursday morning, the new ad reflects Romney’s original campaign strategy, framing Romney is a businessman who knows how to create jobs. Without mentioning Gingrich, the new ad targets Obama as the hapless “community organizer” who doesn’t know how to create jobs while Romney, the businessman, has a plan to turn the country around.

Going forward, Romney looks like he is working a two-pronged strategy. On the one hand, his campaign is tacking right in order to fend of Gingrich, who seems to have wrapped up the ‘anti-Mitt’ vote and is enjoying support from the tea party. At the same time, at least in this first ad, Restore Our Future is making sure Mitt-as-businessman remains an important part of the Romney’s message.
Update: Obama campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt responds to the new ad with the following statement:
Before he was a politician, Mitt Romney was a corporate buyout specialist, eliminating jobs and bankrupting companies while pocketing hundreds of millions of dollars. Now, in the final days of the Iowa caucuses, his allies are riding to his rescue, spending millions of dollars in secret, undisclosed donations to promote a candidate who will put Wall Street profit ahead of middle class security.
