Mitt Romney has a new TV ad in Iowa, starring his wife Ann — delivering a monologue on the ad’s title, “Character.”
Similar to today’s Rick Perry ad, which stars Perry’s wife Anita, there might possibly be a subtle comparison to the thrice-married Newt Gingrich and his adulterous personal history. But in the Romney spot, the contrast does seem to be even more explicit — wondering if character doesn’t matter to “some voters.”
“You can never predict what kind of tough decisions are gonna come in front of a president’s desk. But if you can trust they will do the right thing — and maybe the hard thing, and maybe not the popular thing — and if you really want to know how a person will operate, look at how they’ve lived their life.
“And I think that’s why it’s so important to understand the character of a person. To me, that makes a huge difference. Maybe some voters, it doesn’t. But for me, it makes a huge difference.
