Jon Stewart on Wednesday finally caught up with the New Hampshire primary results. Mitt Romney won it by a mile, becoming, as Stewart said, the “first Republican non-incumbent to win both Iowa and New Hampshire while still having no one like him.”
Ouch. After his decisive win, Romney appeared on stage with his wife, Ann — who “still has yet to endorse a candidate” — and what Stewart “can only assume is some type of Osmond tribute band.” Romney used the moment to test-drive what will likely be his speech when he accepts the Republican nomination. Obama, Romney said Tuesday, made lofty promises that he couldn’t possibly keep. Romney, on the other hand, promised a balanced budget, smaller government and a ferocious military.
“See, people, my promises are realistic,” Stewart mocked. “A tiny government, a balanced budget and a giant, invincible army. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you new Sparta. It’s like old Sparta but with less capital gains taxes and not as gay.”
