Republican Tom Cotton has extended his lead to 8.5 points over Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor in Arkansas in a new poll, another sign of trouble for the incumbent.

Cotton leads Pryor by a margin of 49 points to 40.5 points, according to a new Hendrix College survey of likely voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.

He led by two points, 44 percent to 42 percent, in the same poll as of late July.

Cotton has consistently been ahead in recent polls, but the 8.5 point-lead appears to be his largest lead of the race in a non-partisan public poll.

The new Hendrix College survey polled 2,075 likely voters on Oct. 15-16, after two debates between the candidates.
