Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took a small lead over GOP rival Donald Trump, according to a poll from Iowa released Sunday.

The NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll showed that Cruz had 28 percent support among likely caucusgoers and Trump held 24 percent support, according to the survey.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) had 13 percent and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson had 11 percent.

The same poll in October showed Trump with 24 percent of likely caucusgoers and Carson with 19. Both Cruz and Rubio had 6 percent support at that time.

The poll was conducted from Jan. 2-7 and surveyed 1,094 potential GOP caucusgoers. The margin of error was plus or minus 3 percent.
