Real estate mogul Donald Trump has a seven-point lead over Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) among likely Republican caucusgoers on the day of the Iowa caucuses, according to the latest Quinnipiac University Poll.
Trump polled 31 percent, which is no change from Tuesday’s Quinnipiac University Poll. Cruz saw a five-point drop since Tuesday and now polled at 24 percent.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) polled at 17 percent, a four-point jump for the freshman senator. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson polled at 8 percent.
No other candidates polled above 4 percent.
However, 3 percent of likely Republican caucusgoers are undecided and another 28 percent who chose a candidate may still change their minds. Thirty-five percent said they “would definitely not support” Trump.
The poll was conducted from Jan. 25-31 by cell phones and landlines among 890 likely Republican caucusgoers. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.3 percent.
These polls aren’t telling us who voters’ second and third choices are. Candidates have to reach 15% threshold or else their voters have to choose someone else.
Trump is a buffoon who would make a terrible president, but Cruz is downright terrifying. A bad election day for Cruz is a good day for America.
Very interesting. So what you’re saying is that if Rubio under performs and comes in at 14‰, then his voters will have to back another candidate between Trump and Cruz? Or, I guess voters for Jeb!, Kasich, Carson, etc. could push Rubio or some other candidate far enough ahead to count?
Trump: There is no way a Canadian is going to beat a patriot American like me.
