Scott Walker speaks before signing a bill into law, a measure that prohibits requiring a worker to pay union dues in Brown Deer, Wis., on Monday, March 9, 2015. Walker, a likely presidential candidate fresh off a weekend visit to Iowa, signed the right-to-work bill affecting private-sector workers at an invitation-only ceremony at Badger Meter north of Milwaukee. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) approval numbers among Wisconsinites have dipped over the past few months, according to a new Public Policy Polling survey released Tuesday.

Just before Walker’s re-election in 2014, 49 percent of Wisconsinites approved of the Wisconsin governor while 47 percent said they disapproved, according to Democratic-leaning PPP. The latest finding from the pollster found Walker’s approval has dropped, with 43 percent of Wisconsinites saying they approve of the job he’s doing while 52 percent said they disapprove. Another 4 percent said they were unsure.

The change seems to be a shift in opinion among independents, PPP said. Before Walker’s re-election 48 percent of Wisconsin independents said they approved of the job Walker is doing while 45 percent said they disapproved. Now though just 36 percent said they approve of the job he’s doing while 57 percent said they disapproved.

The new poll comes a day after Walker signed a new right-to-work bill into law. The poll found that 42 percent of Wisconsin voters said they support the law while 44 percent said they oppose it and another 14 percent said they were unsure.

The poll was conducted among 1,071 Wisconsin voters between March 6 and March 8. It had had an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
