More than half of New Jersey residents said they would describe Gov. Chris Christie (R) as “arrogant” and would not describe him as “presidential,” according to a poll released on Tuesday.

The Rutgers-Eagleton poll found that 54 percent of Garden State voters said Christie wasn’t at all “presidential” while 29 percent said the word describes him somewhat well. Just 14 percent said they thought the word “presidential” described Christie very well.

The poll noted that those figures were little changed since April. Christie launched his presidential campaign at the end of June.

So how would New Jersey voters describe their two-term governor?

Fifty-eight percent said the word “arrogant” describes the governor very well, while 49 percent said “bully” is a very apt description for Christie.

The poll surveyed 757 registered voters in New Jersey by phone from July 25-Aug. 1. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
