Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson had an almost equal amount of support in a national poll released Sunday.

The NBC/Wall Street Journal poll showed that Trump had support from 21 percent of Republican primary voters and Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, had 20 percent.

Republican candidates Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina were tied for third place with 11 percent each.

The poll was conducted Sept. 20-24 among 230 GOP primary voters. Its margin of error was plus or minus 6.5 percentage points.
