Hillary Clinton’s lead over Donald Trump dropped by just one point in the NBC News/Survey Monkey weekly national tracking poll released Tuesday morning.

Clinton leads Trump by 9 points, 50-41, among registered voters, down slightly from her 51-41 lead in last week’s tracking poll.

When third party candidates are added to the question, Clinton leads Trump by six points. The results were Clinton 43, Trump 37, Libertarian Gary Johnson 11, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein 4.

TPM’s PollTracker Average shows Clinton leading Trump nationally 43 to 37.8.

NBC/Survey Monkey surveyed 15,179 registered voters August 8-14 online with a margin of error plus or minus 1.2 percentage points.

What would keep me up late at night if I were Clinton?

At some point, complacency could become an issue, although it’s probably too early to worry about that. In the nearer term, I’d be worried that the race has been so volatile. Sure, things look good now. But conditions in May, and then again in July, produced a close race. Is there anything inherently preventing those conditions from arising again? I suppose I’d wonder about what Wikileaks has up its sleeve and what sort of geopolitical events could work in Trump’s favor.

  4. I think the “news” you are looking for should arrive by Jan 2025 or so…

  5. I’m going to guess that Clinton’s October surprise is going to be a full revelation of Trumps Russian connection and she is sitting on it for now. I know she has something planned. Her campaign is too well honed not to have several strategies lined up.
