President Donald Trump and newly minted Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker already have a cozy relationship, The Washington Post reported.

According to a senior administration official who spoke to the Post, Whitaker, as former Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ chief of staff, met with Trump in the Oval Office a dozen-plus times, usually alongside Sessions. In those meetings, Whitaker would not hide that he agreed with Trump’s grievances about the Russia investigation. According to the official, Whitaker would smile or nod in agreement when Trump ranted about special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe.

Democratic lawmakers are calling on Whitaker to recuse himself and are already taking steps to protect Mueller’s probe from any action the acting attorney general could potentially take to stifle the probe.
