WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says U.S. troops do not need to remain in Syria.
Trump tweeted Wednesday: “We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency.”
His tweet followed a series of news reports that the U.S. is preparing to withdraw its troops from Syria. The news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Responding to the reports, Pentagon spokesman Col. Rob Manning issued a statement, saying: “At this time, we continue to work by, with and through our partners in the region.”
Uh, aren’t we supposed to not have any troops in Syria?
Did ISIS get the memo or did the President tweet them privately?
Vlad told Donald that Syria is a Russian client state and ordered Donald to get the US out of Syria. Donald complied.
In spite of Trump’s obviously narcissistic reasons, this is the proper move in my view. I read the CNN article that was bent with a neo-con viewpoint (ceding influence to Russia, et al). Unless we are willing to go full on war (which we aren’t) we should not be messing around the edges of Syria’s civil war. It doesn’t protect us from anything, and it just pisses everyone off.
Sounds like our JCS hasn’t quite gotten on board with Putin’s directive.
