On the sixth day of the government shutdown — just a few short weeks after he proudly claimed he would take full responsibility for it — President Trump deflected blame to the Democrats and suggested they may be hurting themselves the most with the funding impasse.

“Do the Dems realize that most of the people not getting paid are Democrats?” he tweeted Thursday.

The tweet follows news that Trump is not speaking with congressional leaders about his funding demands, and Republican leaders tell Politico they are not optimistic a new will be reached until the new congress is sworn in in January — at the earliest.
