17 Treated At High School After LA Officer Uses Pepper Spray

LOS ANGELES (AP) — At least 17 people have been treated at a Los Angeles high school after a police officer used pepper spray to break up a fight.

Police say two fights had broken out between students at John C. Fremont High School on Thursday morning and an officer used the pepper spray to end them. KNBC-TV reports that police say only one student was targeted with the spray. An officer tells the station that the other students “got an overspray” because of a breeze.

The Los Angeles Fire Department says most people complained of minor eye irritation and two people had minor injuries from the fight.

Police say the officer’s decision to use pepper spray will be reviewed.

  1. If I were a glass-half-full kind of person I’d be grateful that he didn’t just shoot them.

I prefer a pepper mill. There’s nothing like fresh-ground organic pepper on a buttered ear of sweet corn. M-mm!

  4. Or use a traser. Can’t say I blame them. I wonder what affect an air horn would have had?

It seems the question is always what level of force is appropriate when the real question should be how can this be resolved without the use of force. I’ve seen bouncers defuse some pretty nasty situations with some pretty nasty characters without having to use pepper spray, Tase or shoot anyone. Shouldn’t cops be able to do the same?
