BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine (AP) — The wife of Maine Gov. Paul LePage has taken on a summer waitressing job near their Boothbay home. And she’s saving up for a Toyota RAV4.

Ann LePage had kept quiet about the gig, but her husband told a crowd at a recent town hall that his wife took a job to “supplement” his lowest-in-the-nation $70,000 salary. This year, the Republican governor unsuccessfully proposed to more than double his successor’s salary to $150,000.

LePage worked her first double shift on Thursday at McSeagull’s, a bustling restaurant touting double-wrapped bacon scallops and harbor views. She says being a waitress is “something I’ve always, always wanted to do.”

She says following through on her interest is something her late mother, who passed away last fall, would have been proud of.

  1. Isn’t that quaint…just what you’d expect from being married to that fat-ass tightwad. Maybe he’ll go along with an increase in the minimum wage in Maine now…

I was about to post my exasperation at this story being here at all - but connecting it to minimum wage support negates some of my annoyance.

  3. You thought it made her look good, huh? The little woman going off to work a humble pink collar job? Hah, marby. You know better. There’s always a catch whenever any Republican is involved. Minimum wage just happens to be the most obvious unreported irony concerning this story.

Actually, I didn’t think it made her look good at all. I thought it made both LePages look phony - trying to identify as part of the “poor working folks” that they are happy to fleece with their policies. The TPM story seemed to me to be giving them some credibility which is what irritated me.

  5. That’s what I meant actually. I guess I didn’t make that clear in my response.
