FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Police say 18 people were arrested after protesting outside the headquarters of the National Rifle Association in Virginia.

Fairfax County Police spokesman Don Gotthardt said the protesters were arrested Tuesday morning, charged with loitering on a public highway and released.

Local media outlets report that activists gathered outside the headquarters Monday evening to mourn the lives lost in the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, and protest the NRA’s continued opposition to certain gun-control measures.

The event came hours after the Senate rejected proposals from both parties aimed at keeping extremists from acquiring guns. Another measure that failed would have shored up the government’s system of required background checks for many firearms purchases.

Good for them. It may not affect anything in the short time, but all significant change is preceded by sustained, often frustrating, committed activism.

  2. When will large demonstrations on the order of OWS surround NRA headquarters and demand to be arrested? I would love to see banners proclaim I’m not the NRA, but I’m also not a pacifist!

  3. fortunately, the NRA, armed with AR-15s, were able to hold the fort until the police arrived. a tragedy narrowly averted.

Because unlike the 2nd ammendment, 1st ammendment free speech and freedom of assembly rights have limits.
