White House aides and officials spent the day on Saturday at Camp David, brainstorming possible policy footholds the Republican Party should adapt to make health care a focus for the party heading into 2020 elections, CNN reported.
White House acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney confirmed to “Fox News Sunday” that a plan is in the works and strategists want to have a platform in place to give Republicans something to run on next year.
“I do think you’ll see a plan here fairly shortly,” Mulvaney said. “Republicans have better ideas than Democrats. We should not be afraid to talk about that. … We want to run on this.”
Trump’s push to make Republicans the party of health care in recent weeks caught the entire party off guard, forcing Trump to back off the legislative push a bit in a tweet last week when he said a new plan would be “on full display” during the 2020 election.
White House aides are reportedly looking at legislation crafted in 2017 by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) as a starting point, according to CNN.
I think what Mulvaney meant to say was that the G.O.P. health care plan will be coming up short.
Such news this morning. But when did Mulvaney and Stephen Miller become co-presidents*?
After one day of brainstorming? This ought to be good!
He’s been mis-quoted. What he said was that the GOP “plan” will come up short in being fair.
Great minds–see below.
