WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — Martin Sheen has briefly reprised his “West Wing” role as president in a new ad backing his friend seeking election as a Pennsylvania judge.

Sheen played the fictional President Josiah Bartlet in the series and brought the role back briefly in the roughly two-minute ad for Judge Joe Cosgrove. Cosgrove is seeking election to Commonwealth Court.

As Bartlet, Sheen reads a proclamation calling for Cosgrove’s reappointment, citing his legal mind and “courageous” decisions. Sheen says he’s known Cosgrove for most of his life and called him his brother.

Cosgrove was appointed last year by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf and is seeking an elected term on the court. He’s competing in the May 16 Democratic primary.

Before serving on the court, Cosgrove served on the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas.

  1. If we can’t have Obama for President still, at least I can go to my happy place and watch President Bartlett as President when all else fails. I love the West Wing…and Martin Sheen isn’t so bad himself. I wish they brought that show back in some updated form. Younger generations need to learn what the Presidency and gov’t are really about…or should be about. That show was a basic civics lesson at times and yes, a little overly-idealistic…but that’s what this screwed up country needs right now. Not President PeePee Pervert.

  2. I’ve been listening to the podcast West Wing Weekly. http://thewestwingweekly.com

Many of the original cast members are invited guests (including Aaron Sorkin). If you’re interested go back to the first one. Great fun.

THE WEST WING WEEKLY is an episode-by-episode discussion of one of television’s most beloved shows, co-hosted by one of its stars, Joshua Malina, along with Hrishikesh Hirway of Song Exploder.

and, sorry Pres. Obama, but I agree: https://twitter.com/JoshMalina/status/830068026200379392

  3. Ahhhh, those were simpler times…What am I saying? W. was President, and not one, but two wars were going on then.

I know it started when Bubba was still Prez. but it always felt like a better escape when Junior and the Bush League came into office.

I’ll try to check out that podcast. I bookmarked it.
