MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Milwaukee custard shop owner is defending his English-only ordering policy.

WITI-TV reports the policy at Leon’s Frozen Custard became public Tuesday after a Spanish-speaking customer was told by a Spanish-speaking employee that she was only allowed to take his order in English.

Shop owner Ron Schneider says that the policy has been in place for more than a decade. He tells WISN-TV that he doesn’t want to encourage non-English orders because it’s going to be “a problem down the road,” adding that “we can’t be the United Nations.” He says no customer has ever been turned away.

WITI reports the Wisconsin chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens says the policy violates federal labor law. The group is calling for a government investigation.

Shopkeepers like this fool make me wish I could puke on cue.

  5. I’d like to know how this xenophobic policy in place for a decade has never turned away a customer. If you refused their order wouldn’t the customer just walk? You just gave them whatever? W.T.F?
