OVERTON, Texas (AP) — Two Texas girls whose lemonade stand was shut down because they lacked a permit will instead offer the drink for free.
Television station KLTV reports (http://bit.ly/1JMtmci ) that 8-year-old Andria Green and her 7-year-old sister, Zoey, will take only donations for lemonade Saturday in Overton, about 120 miles east of Dallas.
A police officer on Monday approached the stand, which offered lemonade for 50 cents and “kettle korn” for $1.
In patrol-car video, the officer can be heard asking the girls’ mother, Sandi Evans, for a permit. She says she wasn’t aware they needed one.
A family friend went to City Hall to get one. Authorities waived the $150 fee, but said health department officials needed to inspect the stand.
Overton’s police chief says police must follow state health guidelines.

So, if Texas police are following state health guidelines, then the cops must be avoiding excess cholesterol, excercising regularly, eating their vegetables and cutting down on the barbeque, Coors and Dos Equis???
I was about to comment that they now need to close down all McD’s and BK’s in the state.
The only way I can see this needing to be addressed would be if they were on a sidewalk in a busy city. This is not even remotely close to what happened here. This is pretty silly. Yes, you need such laws and police need the power to enforce them. But police also have to practice selective enforcement. Like a busy highway during rush hour, everyone is going 80 and you let it go. But if some jerk is going 90 and weaving in and out of other cars, you nail them.
You know, were I were prone to conspiracy theories, I’d wonder where these sonsofbitches do this on purpose to generate yet more outrage over the evil overreaching gummint on behalf of the real corporate criminals who’ll then get lax treatment.
It’s funny haven’t seen too much poutrage by conservatives and teabaggers about government overreach maybe because it is the state government of the “great” state of Texas and not the federal government this time.
Texas, the crush kiddie dreams or die state. If only one or both of the girls had Ebola they could have sold drinks for a few more days…
