ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Attorney General-elect Keith Ellison says he is resigning as deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Ellison told Minnesota Public Radio on Wednesday night that he’s notified DNC Chairman Tom Perez that he “will be retiring from that role to devote all my time to the people of the state of Minnesota.”

Ellison was elected Minnesota attorney general on Tuesday despite an ex-girlfriend’s accusation of domestic abuse, which Ellison has denied. Ellison defeated Republican Doug Wardlow for an office that had threatened to swing to Republicans for the first time in nearly half a century.

Ellison rose to national prominence as the first Muslim elected to Congress and last year became deputy chairman of the DNC.

  1. Ellison was elected Minnesota attorney general on Tuesday despite an ex-girlfriend’s accusation of domestic abuse, which Ellison has denied.

In Minnesota his allies say he was cleared of that accusation but:

The lawyer’s probe into [Karen] Monahan’s allegations noted that Monahan talked about the allegations with her therapist in June 2018. But after reviewing therapist’s notes, the lawyer deemed Monahan’s story “inconsistent” as she said Ellison "dragged" her off the bed rather than “tried to pull her off the bed.”

Calling that an inconsistency is beyond ridiculous.

If they cleared him, I hope they had a better reason than that.

I think you have that backwards. To not clear him she would have to present BETTER EVIDENCE than that. She claimed to have a video of the alleged incident but could not produce it.

The allegations were found to not be credible.

  3. Yes, her withholding a recording because it was supposedly embarrassing did not help her case.

On the other hand, the so-called inconsistency they accused her of is really too stupid for words.

  4. “Tried to pull her off” means he didn’t succeed. “Dragged her off” means he did succeed. That does seem inconsistent to me.

Also, I once swung a gift bag containing cooked yams at my former husband when he was refusing to cooperate with me on a reasonable request, and if that disqualified me from public service notwithstanding my other qualifications on the plus side of the ledger I would wonder what the world was coming to. Keith has been a dogged public servant and is going to acquit himself well in that office, I am confident of that.

Women are generally allowed to assault men without consequence. We’re supposed to ‘be men’ and brush it off. How often do you violently assault your husband? If any man ever made that claim about his wife, he’d be torn to shreds here…
