Rumors of Chief of Staff John Kelly’s departure have fluxuated between hot and cold essentially since Kelly was first appointed to the role.

But according to new reports from Axios, which first broke the news, and CNN, the end is nigh.

Kelly is expected to leave the White House in coming days, sources familiar with the situation told CNN. The relationship between President Trump and Kelly has cooled so significantly in recent days that the two are no longer speaking and Trump is actively talking with aides about his replacement.

Nick Ayers, Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff, remains a top contender, but no final decision has been made.
