WASHINGTON (AP) — The head of the Congressional committee that oversees District of Columbia affairs says he’ll block a city bill that would allow terminally ill patients to end their own lives with a doctor’s help.
Media outlets report that Rep. Jason Chaffetz told reporters Monday that he fundamentally disagrees with the “Death with Dignity” bill, which Mayor Muriel Bowser signed last month. It would allow patients with six months or less to live to request lethal medication from their doctors.
The bill was sent to Congress last week for a 30-day review. Chaffetz, a Utah Republican, plans to introduce a disapproval resolution this month. To overturn the law, both the House and Senate must vote on the resolution, which would then go to the White House for a final signature.

There is no bottom to the depths of this man’s callousness or ignorance. He’s the doctor who won’t relieve the most terminal, agony-ridden patient with even the mildest doses of pain killers because “they might get addicted.”
That the man — one Representative … from fucking UTAH! — can make life and death decisions for the voters of The Last Plantation is beyond the pale.
What’s so scary, though, is that people voted for this animal.
This actually happened to a person very close to me. Years ago while at the hospital saying my good-byes to my cancer-ravaged best friend who could speak no louder than a whisper, his doctor came in to check on him and asked him about his night nurse. The doctor then turned to me and angrily told of a night nurse who had been withholding my friend’s morphine because he would get addicted to it. I was absolutely floored that such mind-blowing insensitivity could exist in a medical professional. My friend passed away a week later. Jason Chaffetz is a slimy toad of a human being.
