Insulting the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) appears to be a bridge too far for a few of the President’s most ardent supporters, including some at his favorite TV network.

Fox News host Neil Cavuto, who is occasionally critical of President Trump, used the opening monologue of his show on Tuesday evening to question whether Trump’s latest dig against McCain’s ghost could cost him his reelection.

“Seven months after John McCain is lead to rest, Donald Trump can’t give it a rest. Forget about whether a president, any president, should be doing this. Is this one risking losing a second term if he keeps doing this?” Cavuto said. “For a president who has a lot of things going his way, is he the one who is ultimately getting in the way of himself and his party? ..Whether he’s talking about a deceased senator, he clearly doesn’t like, or a late-night comedy show that he clearly doesn’t love or even a Fox News line-up we’re told that he clearly doesn’t entirely embrace. So put another way, is the messenger getting in the way of his own message?”

On Tuesday afternoon, Trump again raised his grudge with McCain over the senator’s famous health care vote, which kept Congress from repealing Obamacare in 2017 and told reporters he was “never a fan of John McCain and I never will be.”

McCain passed away in August after a battle with brain cancer.
