Despite his aides’ urging for him to choose a woman to replace UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, President Donald Trump seems to be leaning towards Richard Grenell, the current U.S. ambassador to Germany who has frequently offended his hosts as well as people back home, according to a Thursday Politico report.

Despite Trump’s denials that he’s considering Grenell, the ambassador has been brought to the White House for a meeting this week, and has reportedly been frequently brought up within the administration as a popular choice.

During Grenell’s confirmation hearings for his current post, Democrats brought up old tweets of his in which he criticized the appearances of prominent women like MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and Hillary Clinton.

When he eventually was confirmed, he angered his German peers by, at various times, appearing sympathetic to far-right movements in Europe. In one instance, he said during an interview with Breitbart that he wanted to “empower other conservatives throughout Europe.”
