The mother of the neo-Nazi who allegedly shot and killed a gay Wayne Community College employee on Monday in Goldsboro, N.C., said on Tuesday the victim had made “inappropriate sexual advances” toward her son.

Kenneth Morgan Stancil III’s mother, Debbie Stancil, told the Associated Press that her son had been upset about sexual advances allegedly made by the gay victim, Ron Lane.

“He was verbally inappropriate with Morgan at school. Very much verbally inappropriate,” Stancil told the AP. “He would tell him to stop and he kept on.”

Stancil said her son was “rattled and confused.”

“I don’t agree with what he did, but in his mind he must have thought that was the only way,” she told the AP. “He’s probably out of his mind. I think he needs mental help.”

“He had a moment of insanity. I don’t know,” Stancil continued. “He just snapped. That is not my son.”

However, she denied the accusations her son made in court on Tuesday that Lane had sexually abused a relative. She said Lane had never met the relative.

Kenneth Stancil allegedly killed Lane with a single shot from a pistol-grip shotgun before fleeing the campus on a motorcycle which officials later found abandoned, television station WNCN reported.

Officials said the shooting was being investigated as a possible hate crime; however, the exact motive has not been disclosed, according to WNCN.

Stancil recently got the neo-Nazi code number 88 tattooed beneath his left eye. The number is code for “Heil Hitler” as “H” is the eighth letter in the alphabet. As TPM reported on Tuesday, Stancil appeared to have created a profile on New Saxon, a social networking site for those of “European descent.” According to his profile, Stancil disliked “race traitors” and was interested in “motorcycles, white pride, adolf hitler” and “guns.”

Debbie Stancil also mentioned the “inappropriate sexual advances” on Monday in an interview with WNCN.

“He was very upset when the person that’s deceased was making advances to him. He told him to stop and he kept on,” Stancil told the station. “I urged him to go to a counselor to tell them and ask to get switched to another work-study before this happened — the firing. The termination, I mean.”

Stancil said the sexual advances along with “advances to another family member” and the loss of his job, “devastated” her son, WNCN reported. Stancil didn’t explain what she meant by the advances on the other family member.

She said the man who killed Lane was not the son she knew, according to WNCN. She also said her son’s facial tattoo “was just there since Saturday.”

Stancil said her son left behind a video and six-page letter in which he wrote that he’d never recovered from discovering his father’s body in 2009 and that he still intended to marry his girlfriend after the shooting.

The Lane family’s spokesperson told WNCN the allegations that Lane made sexual advances on Kenneth Stancil were “slanderous.”

Kenneth Stancil was being held without bail in Volusia County, Fla., where he was arrested on Tuesday after fleeing North Carolina, the AP reported.
