Virginia Boy Shot In Face After Handling Gun While Home Alone

Police are investigating a shooting in which a boy suffered a gunshot wound to the face when he was left home alone Wednesday morning in Amelia, Va., Richmond TV station WWBT reported. 

Two boys, who neighbors say were brothers, were left alone at the residence, according to the Amelia Bulletin Monitor. One boy, 11, was handling a gun when the weapon accidentally fired, according to that newspaper. The child’s brother, 10, called 911 to report the older boy had been shot in the mouth.

Police confirmed to WWBT that the 11-year-old appeared to suffer a gunshot wound to the face, but declined to release further details due to the ongoing investigation.
