The Onion Media Empire will now include “immersive reporting that is uncaged, unaccountable and totally fucked up” with a parody of HBO’s VICE, the company announced Tuesday.
If the preview is any indication, the Monday premiere should bring an even more hyperbolic version of VICE’s Emmy-award winning show but with “cocaine that doesn’t suck.”

Watch the trailer below:
I watched the VICE report from the forest around Chernobyl where the “reporter” was getting smashed the whole time. I guess maybe that was an outlier and I should check it out again.
This Onion work has potential for greatness for sure. Vice sets themselves up for it. Vice’s content is only about a quarter or less actual reporting, the rest is just that, “content” for the present media age.
The best damn reporting I’ve seen in a long time is done by Simon Ostrovsky. Anywhere he goes he does great work - though especially so with his dispatches from all over eastern Europe.
We already have that – it’s called FOX Entertainment.
Orphans of war? Really? Is ANYTHING funny about these poor souls?
Part of me wants to really like VICE, because in a nation where the idea of “news” to most people has deduced itself to old partisan assholes shouting people down on primetime and Wolf Blitzer reading Tweets, VICE actually does have some guts. The problem for me is the overt “edginess” that somehow has to permeate everything they do, and sometimes comes off as a dare more than anything. It’s like watching a version of Jackass featuring privileged hipsters in war zones.
